Hummus Trail ("we," "us") is a travel-recommendations platform for backpackers. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using hummustrail.com you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
We keep data collection minimal:
Account info — if you sign up, your email address and display name (and, if you use Google sign-in, the basic profile Google shares). Passwords are stored hashed by our authentication system; we never see them.
Content you create — the countries, places, and recommendations you add to your map and profile.
Messages — if you join the waitlist or send feedback, the email and message you submit.
Automatic data — basic, privacy-friendly usage analytics (page views, approximate region, device type) with no advertising profiles, plus data your browser stores locally (see Cookies below).
How we use your information
To operate and improve the service: to create and secure your account, save and display your map and recommendations, respond to your messages, understand which content is useful, and keep the site working and safe. We do not sell your personal information.
Cookies, local storage, and tracking
We use browser local storage to remember your preferences and your map while you are signed out. We use lightweight analytics to count visits. Our affiliate partners (see below) may set their own cookies when you click an affiliate link, so they can attribute a resulting booking to us. You can clear cookies and local storage at any time in your browser settings.
Affiliate links
Some links on Hummus Trail are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase (for example, an eSIM, accommodation, or tour), we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. These links are marked, and clicking them may share standard click data (such as that the click came from us) with the partner. We only recommend things we believe are genuinely useful.
Third-party services
We rely on a small set of reputable providers to run the site:
Hosting and delivery (our website host).
Our backend/database, which stores your account and content.
Form handling for the waitlist and feedback.
Sign-in with Google (optional), subject to Google’s own privacy policy.
Affiliate networks (e.g. Airalo, Travelpayouts, GetYourGuide, SafetyWing) when you use their links.
Data retention and security
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, and we take reasonable measures to protect it. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your data.
Your rights and choices
You can view and edit your profile and map at any time while signed in. To access, correct, export, or delete your account and associated data, contact us (see below) and we will help. You can also browse much of the site without an account.
Children's privacy
Hummus Trail is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. We will revise the "last updated" date above, and significant changes will be reflected here.
