Hummus Trail Map — The Full Route

One trail, two halves. East: India, Nepal, and Southeast Asia. West: South America from Colombia to Argentina. The canonical stops, in walking order:

India & Nepal

1. Delhi — Where most trips start — chaos first, calm later.
2. Kasol & Parvati Valley — "Little Israel in the Himalayas" — treks, hot springs, hummus.
3. Manali — Old Manali cafes, big treks, and the gateway to Ladakh.
4. Dharamkot & McLeod Ganj — Yoga courses, mountain air, and one of the biggest Israeli scenes in India.
5. Rishikesh — Yoga capital on the Ganges — ashrams, rafting, and long stays.
6. Kathmandu & the treks — Nepal: Annapurna and Everest Base Camp — the classic post-army treks.
7. Pushkar — Holy lake town in Rajasthan with a famous travelers' scene.
8. Hampi — Boulder landscapes and temple ruins — everyone's favorite detour.
9. Goa — The beach chapter — Anjuna, Arambol, and the party-to-shanti spectrum.
10. Varkala — Kerala's cliff-top beach town — the mellow far south.

Southeast Asia

1. Bangkok — The gateway to Southeast Asia — Khao San and beyond.
2. Chiang Mai — Temples, cooking classes, and the base for the north.
3. Pai — The Israeli capital of Thailand — a valley you plan 3 days for and stay 3 weeks.
4. Vang Vieng — Laos: karst mountains, lagoons, and slow river days.
5. Hanoi & the north — Vietnam: Ha Giang loop, Ha Long Bay, and the motorbike route south.
6. Siem Reap — Cambodia: Angkor Wat and the backpacker crossroads.
7. Koh Phangan — Full moon parties on one side, silent retreats on the other.
8. Bali — Canggu, Ubud, and the islands — the far end of the eastern trail.

South America

1. Medellín — Colombia: the modern start of the western trail.
2. Quito — Ecuador: volcanoes, markets, and the road south.
3. Lima — Peru begins — ceviche, Miraflores, and the bus to the mountains.
4. Cusco — Machu Picchu's base camp and one of the biggest hubs on the whole trail.
5. La Paz — Bolivia: the highest big city on earth and the trail's cheap heart.
6. Salar de Uyuni — The salt flats — the photo everyone came for.
7. San Pedro de Atacama — Chile: desert, geysers, and star fields.
8. Buenos Aires — Steak, tango, and the end (or start) of the western trail.
