Practical Info

Budget: $30-50/day. More expensive than Asia but still affordable.

Best time: May to September (dry season in the Andes).

Altitude: Cusco and La Paz are above 3,400m. Take it slow the first day. Coca tea helps.

Spanish: Learn the basics. English is much less common than in Asia.

Safety: Use common sense. Avoid walking alone at night in cities. Use Uber/Cabify.

Buses: Long distances but comfortable. Cruz del Sur in Peru, Bolivia Hop for the gringo trail.
